Classic Hermès Carré scarf, 90cm by 90cm, designed by Philippe Dumas and first released in 1983, then reissued several times, attesting to its exceptional success. It is a true homage to the Molier Circus, which regularly organized exceptional performances during the Belle Époque in Paris, bringing together the cream of local society. Superb equestrian and sporting demonstrations took place in the heart of a private mansion on rue Bénouville in the 16th arrondissement of Paris starting in the 1880s.
Text from Hermès booklets: "From 1880 to 1934, a circus operated on rue de Bénouville in Paris, with free admission and a troupe of volunteer artists from high society, enjoying the ancient pleasure of amateurism. Its director, Ernest Molier, a "centaur man," held an annual gala where clowns, trapeze artists, but especially horsemen and horsewomen, proved to an upscale audience that one can succeed while having fun and that leisure is a prodigious leaven."
