Hermès silk twill scarf, 90x90cm, titled "Jardin des Métamorphoses," designed by François Houtin and issued in 2010. Here's how Hermès itself describes this scarf, taken from the house's small notebooks:
"The horses run wild, catching their manes on the treetops. Around them, still and watchful like temple guardians, the bear, heron, squirrel, fox, and wild boar stand guard. Time is suspended – what dream will this garden host? Two aesthetic worlds inspired this scarf. In Renaissance Italy, the painter Andrea Mantegna drew the plan of his house by inscribing a circle within a square... In 18th-century France, the Château de Raray saw the walls of its courtyard adorned with a strange procession of sculpted animals... This Picardy château later became the setting for Jean Cocteau's film Beauty and the Beast. As for the oak whose branches embrace the scene, this scarf is a tribute to it."
A splendid piece, from the works of François Houtin, whom I greatly respect.
